How this site makes money, in plain language.

GearSerials is free to use and carries no subscription. Where a page shows you what comparable instruments are currently listed for, the links out to those marketplaces can earn us a commission on a sale.

We intend to take part in two programs: the Reverb program, through the AWIN network, and the eBay Partner Network. We have not joined either one yet, so nothing on this site earns a commission today. Both are the marketplaces' own official programs, and price context on this site comes from those marketplaces' official APIs.

Outbound marketplace links on this site are currently plain, untagged links to the marketplace. They will carry our partner tag once we are in both programs and the kind of link we want to use is settled, and this page will say so when it happens.

The year a serial number decodes to, the confidence on it, and the price range we show all come out of the decode rules and the marketplace data, before any link on the page exists. We don't accept payment for coverage, we don't rank one marketplace above another for money, and we don't bid on brand terms in paid search.
